WHAT IS BIAPWS?

The British and Irish Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (BIAPWS) exists to advance knowledge of the properties of water, steam and aqueous systems, particularly those of interest to industry:

The British and Irish Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (BIAPWS) is a voluntary, non-profit making, organisation affiliated to the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam IAPWS. BIAPWS shares the IAPWS objective to advance the knowledge of the properties of water, steam and aqueous systems, particularly those of industrial importance. BIAPWS members are engaged in providing a link-interface between academics, engineering and other companies with interest in these properties. Through these links contributions to IAPWS products are made. Membership is drawn from universities, research institutes and industry. The Committee organises Symposia and provides 'neutral ground' for discussions on topics applicable to industrial users of water and steam.

BIAPWS is currently supported by a significant number of industrial sponsors representing the electric power generation industry in the UK and Ireland as well as suppliers of power plant and ancillary equipment (see BIAPWS Sponsors). Links exist with the Universities of Birmingham and London. To support research into relevant topics, BIAPWS may occasionally offer limited financial assistance to students willing to submit a detailed proposal to the Chairman by email to BIAPWS Student Support Enquiry

BIAPWS has a positive programme for the future with plans for further collaborative symposia and support for appropriate agreed studies.

If you are interested in joining BIAPWS and would like more information, please contact us by email to BIAPWS Membership Enquiry
